I do a lot of freelance work for my former employer, American Girl. I love them. So I was extra excited when they asked me to help out with the wardrobe styling at an upcoming photo shoot. I’ve dabbled in wardrobe (and hair and makeup) styling for a few local shoots when I was on staff at American Girl magazine, but when it came to big photo shoots, we always relied on the professionals. Well now, that’s me!
For the March/April 2013 American Girl magazine cover, we had the ultimate accessory for the cover girl: a puppy. Which makes my job easy, because — let’s be honest — it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing when you’re holding a puppy. If you’ve worked on photo shoots before, you know that “one puppy” actually means “three or more puppies.” This time we had four adorable, cuddly, precious puppies that I instantly wanted to take home with me even after they peed on the set.
Here are some outtakes in the Behind the Scenes section of American Girl magazine. If you don’t know, puppies are heavy — especially when they wiggle around — so props to Maya for wrangling those little furry suckers and keeping a smile on her face the whole time!
