My latest American Girl book, A Smart Girl’s Guide to Travel, is a 2019 National Parenting Products Award winner! This book was so special to me, so I was thrilled to see it recognized. I’d love nothing more than to inspire girls to be more adventurous, step out of their comfort zones, and become more open to differences and new experiences.
NAPPA is one of the longest running awards programs in the country, and is the “go-to” source for parents and professionals seeking the best products for their children. Here’s what they had to say about my book:
“Ready for a family trip? We found the perfect companion to take along with you. American Girl’s A Smart Girls Guide: Travel: Everything You Need to Know About Adventuring Near and Far is all about adventure and trying new things and meeting new people. The book is a great way to illustrate how to be confident and happy travelers, whether it’s going on a short trip just a few hours away or making a trek across the world. Filled with fun quizzes, smart safety tips and cool trivia, this book will help girls get ready for a lifetime of adventure.” Read the rest of the review here.
They also made an awesome video highlighting their favorite parts of A Smart Girl’s Guide to Travel. My heart burst when Elena said, “It’s such a wonderful introduction to the love of travel.”
I love to travel so I was super pumped to write this book. Inside you’ll find legit travel tips like how to pack, how to convert currency, and how to use public transport. But more importantly, I’ve included life skills like how to respect other cultures, how to keep an open mind, and how to be adventurous in your own home town.
Every kid can be an explorer whether they travel near or far, which is why I was excited to dedicate this book to my daughter. She’s already made me more adventurous. We traveled to Spain with her when she was only 7 months old. Spain was my first big trip when I was 17. And 17 years later, I got to take her there!
Traveling with a kid seems scary, but it was not even remotely as difficult as I thought it would be. It’s important for kids (and adults!) to venture beyond their own bubble. I hope we keep inspiring her to explore! And I hope this book inspires other kids to try something new and experience different cultures and people.
If you’re not familiar, American Girl has a mission statement printed on the back of the book: “American Girl celebrates a girl’s inner star–that little whisper inside that encourages her to stand tall, reach high, and dream big. We take pride and care in helping girls become their very best today, so they’ll grow up to be the women who make a difference tomorrow.” 👊
