Bring Back American Girl Magazine!

This summer, I went from about 1k Instagram followers to almost 8k followers, and it was wild to say the least! I posted a video about The Making of American Girl coffee table book because I was pleased to see American Girl magazine inside AND because I have a small mention inside! I acknowledged that I had worked at American Girl magazine.... and the internet wanted to hear more I guess!

And if people want to me to talk about American Girl magazine, well, boy will I! I started making content about AG mag and the comments that poured in... THE COMMENTS. I couldn't believe that these former readers were now grown adults who could articulate how much the magazine meant to them.

Now I was a former reader myself. I picked up the VERY first issue in 1992. And when I worked at the magazine, I was definitely the first editor to have read the magazine as a kid. It really freaked everyone out so I never properly expressed how much it meant to me. I mean, we knew it meant a lot to the readers based on their letters.

But "soundtrack to my girlhood" and "this magazine RAISED me"? I was not the only American Girl editor who scrolled my Instagram comments while sobbing. And it got me thinking... why can't we bring American Girl magazine back?

Mattel closed the American Girl Wisconsin headquarters a few years ago and brought everything to El Segundo... which is 20 minutes from where I live now. If American Girl is in Los Angeles and I'm in Los Angeles... why can't we reboot the magazine here in LA in the year 2026?

Though the magazine shuttered in 2019, I was not prepared for how I'd feel this May when my daughter turned 8. I realized that she just wouldn't have American Girl magazine in her life. And I couldn't accept that.

So all these things combined at once over this summer, I met with former AG mag staff, got the blessings of some legacy AG mag legends, and put together a pitch deck for Mattel. And now we wait...
